SUMMARY:Ireicho National Tour 2025-2026
DESCRIPTION:The Book of Names National Monument for the WWII Japanese American Incarceration National Tour 2025-2026\nOn February 18\, 2025\, we launched an ambitious effort to bring the Ireichō\, a book monument containing the names of 125\,284 individuals of Japanese ancestry unjustly incarcerated during World War II\, to different camps and communities throughout the US.\nThe tour kicked off at the National Archives/Navy Memorial Visitors’ Center in Washington DC\, where the Book of Names was displayed alongside the original copy of Executive Order 9066. The 100-year old Masaharu Ishii stamped his sister’s name in the Ireichō to officially kick off the national tour which continued with stamping opportunities to commemorate the Day of Remembrance at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History from February 19-21\, 2025. \n\nNamed after the Japanese term for “consoling the spirits\,” the Ireichō monument honors both those who have gone before us as well as those who carry on the memories and legacies of forced removal\, unjust incarceration\, and family separation. Every visitor to the monument is invited to contribute to the creation of the monument by marking one or more names in the Ireichō with a blue hanko stamp. For many camp survivors and descendants\, leaving this mark has been a way to honor the personhood of a family member who suffered the indignities and losses of the wartime incarceration. \n\nYou are the monument to this history. By participating in the stamping of the book during the national tour\, you\, too\, become part of the permanent record of the names and the honoring of them. The tour will run to late summer 2026\, when the Ireichō will be formally gifted to the Japanese American National Museum by the Irei Project. DESCRIPTION:Through September 14\, 2026. This exhibition explores the complex relationship between place and belonging through the lens of Asian American\, Native Hawaiian\, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) identity. In this exhibit\, artists unpack attempts to reconnect with their cultural homelands\, through both physical and emotional journeys\, to answer the timeless question: where and what defines “Home”? \nExpressed in a variety of media including painting\, video and installations\, this uniquely AANHPI perspective inspires conversation to both empower and challenge our perceptions of home and highlight the challenges to finding belonging in diaspora. The exhibition features captivating work from a diverse range of artists including including Eric Chan / 陳志宇 / 진지유\, Lauren Iida\, Ravleen Kaur\, and Kyler Pahang.

DESCRIPTION:June 13\, 2025 to January 4\, 2027. \nCo-curated by Native Hawaiian artist and kapa-maker\, Lehuauakea\, and artist and educator\, Kanani Miyamoto\, this exhibition sheds light on the often-overlooked histories and movement of people who connect Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Northwest since the arrival of the first documented Native Hawaiians to the West Coast in 1787. \nDISplace features visual art by regional Native Hawaiian creatives\, family stories and ephemera\, historic photographs\, and archival objects to honor these histories and reclaim the narrative through the voices of families and individual descendants today. \nThe co-curators\, both members of the mixed-Native Hawaiian diaspora\, draw parallels between their lived experiences and those of others who have relocated or have ties to the Pacific Northwest\, contextualized by a larger timeline of significant historical events. \n‘Dis place’ — this place — is a nod to the pride and resilience of these communities in the face of displacement from their original homelands. DISplace is a crucial step in recovering and celebrating these important AAPI (Asian American/Pacific Islander) histories while building an ongoing narrative of collective resilience and growing legacy no matter where we call home.

DESCRIPTION:June 24 to July 29\, 2025. \nThe Mukai Studio Ghibli Fest kicks off on Tuesday\, June 24 at 7:00 PM with a showing of Porco Rosso the 1992 film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki\, about a WWI former ace fighter\, who has been transformed by a curse to have the head of pig.   This new English dub features the voices of Michael Keaton\, Cary Elwes\, Susan Egan\, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley\, \nAnd karaoke at Ghibli Fest will be back\, by popular demand\, so you can sing your heart out. \nUnfortunately\, in order to secure licensing from Ghibli Studios\, we had to agree to minimum admission charge of $6. This differs from our original “donation only” policy\, but we guarantee that no one will be denied admission if they do not have $6. We will cover it another way. Of course\, donations on top of the admission fee are warmly accepted.

SUMMARY:Walk for Rice
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 28\, 2025. For over 30 years\, Walk for Rice has brought people together to raise funds for the ACRS Food Bank and nutrition programs while raising awareness about food insecurity in Asian and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities. The campaign kicks off in the spring and concludes with a multicultural community celebration and three-mile walk at Seward Park in June. \nAsian and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities are diverse and growing\, yet many face barriers to securing food\, emergency meals\, and other basic necessities. The ACRS Food Bank ensures those experiencing food insecurity can receive culturally familiar items like rice\, tofu\, dry noodles\, and fresh produce such as bok choy. Each year\, the Food Bank distributes around one million pounds of food to around 5\,000 people\, the majority seniors and children. \nSince the first walk in 1990 by co-founders Sam Mitsui and Herb and Bertha Tsuchiya\, Walk for Rice has grown from 45 walkers to hundreds of participants each year\, raising more than $4 million to fight hunger in our region.
