DESCRIPTION:June 13\, 2025 to January 4\, 2027. \nCo-curated by Native Hawaiian artist and kapa-maker\, Lehuauakea\, and artist and educator\, Kanani Miyamoto\, this exhibition sheds light on the often-overlooked histories and movement of people who connect Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Northwest since the arrival of the first documented Native Hawaiians to the West Coast in 1787. \nDISplace features visual art by regional Native Hawaiian creatives\, family stories and ephemera\, historic photographs\, and archival objects to honor these histories and reclaim the narrative through the voices of families and individual descendants today. \nThe co-curators\, both members of the mixed-Native Hawaiian diaspora\, draw parallels between their lived experiences and those of others who have relocated or have ties to the Pacific Northwest\, contextualized by a larger timeline of significant historical events. \n‘Dis place’ — this place — is a nod to the pride and resilience of these communities in the face of displacement from their original homelands. DISplace is a crucial step in recovering and celebrating these important AAPI (Asian American/Pacific Islander) histories while building an ongoing narrative of collective resilience and growing legacy no matter where we call home.

Fishermen’s Fall Festival is a free event organized by a group of people and organizations to raise money for Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial; a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential services to fishermen and their families while also honoring those lives lost at sea. An all-volunteer committee organizes this event that also educates the public about Fishermen’s Terminal and the North Pacific Fishing Fleet and celebrates the commercial seafood industry at the heart of Seattle’s history. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 3\, 2026.  There will be a free community screening of Our Mr. Matsura\, a documentary created by independent filmmaker Beth Harrington held at the Nippon Kan Theatre on Saturday\, October 3rd. \nSettling in rural Okanogan County\, WA in the early 1900s after immigrating from Japan\, Frank Matsura became the region’s leading photographer. Well-known for his charming and playful photographs of the diverse peoples living in the area along with unconventional self-portraits\, Matsura was a beloved member of the community who built bridges across cultures and left a lasting legacy that is still remembered within the region today. \nDoors open at 1 PM. Opening remarks and the film will begin at 1:30 PM. A Q & A session and reception with light refreshments will follow the screening.
