The event is free and all are welcome to join our festivities – from the Okinawan Kenjin-Kai Eisa Taiko Performance\, Kids’ Obon Dance\, Service\, Dancing\, the Seattle Matsuri Taiko Performance\, and last but not least FOOD! All are welcome. \nObon (お盆) is the Japanese Buddhist holiday to honor the spirits of one’s ancestors. It is of significant religious importance and is the biggest event of the year for the Temple.  \nFor over 50 years\, White River Buddhist Temple has held this annual gathering welcoming individuals from all backgrounds. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 1\, 2026. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back this Summer for our Bon Odori Festival! Whether it is your first time attending or your 20th\, we hope to see you all.  \n​Obon is also known as Kangi-e or “Gathering of Joy” and is a major festival and Jodo Shinshu memorial service to honor ancestors and all those who have passed away. Everyone is welcome to dance\, enjoy the food and just watch the dancing and taiko performances. \n​The lawn facing the Temple and grass near sidewalks are available for seating (bring your own chairs and blankets!). Additional seating will be provided in front of the Temple.  \nAll attendees are encouraged to “just dance” as we remember those who have passed on and enjoy the present moment together.
