Atomic Bomb Casualties in August 1945

Atomic Bomb Experience

The city of Hiroshima has been known as the city over which the first atomic bomb  blasted and killed 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima within the first two to four months after the bombing. Thousands of survivors have been suffering from late effects of radiation. Some Hiroshima Club members are A-bomb survivors. Thus, the club is dedicated to educating the public on danger of A-bombs and effects of radiation.

Please see below the effects of atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki to review the fact of those devastating and destructive effects and killing a huge number of people instantaneously. We should never use atomic bombs again on the earth.

The 1st A-bomb named “Little Boy” exploded in the skies over Hiroshima City at 8:15 am on August 6, 1945.

Based on the survey conducted by Hiroshima City Government, causalities by A-bomb in Hiroshima as of Dec 31, 1945 were:

360,000 people lived before bombing.
119,000 deaths (later modified to 140,000 deaths – 39%)
31,000 severely injured (8.6%)
49,000 slightly injured (13.6%)
4,000 missing (1.1%)

The 2nd A-bomb named “Fat Man” exploded in the skies over Nagasaki City at 11:02 am on August 9, 1945.

Based on the estimate by Nagasaki City A-bomb Records Preservation Commission, causalities by A-bomb in Nagasaki City as of Dec 31, 1945 were:

In December 2009, the club helped the University of Washington to host “the Educational Seminar on Health Effects of Atomic Bombs Dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945”.  Please see the outline of the seminar here. This seminar was the 1st English seminar in the United States sponsored by Hiroshima International Council for Health Care of Radiation-Exposed.

In October 2010, the Historical Documenting Committee started interviewing some survivors from the atomic bomb explosion in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The Committee has completed interviews of eight survivors so far. We posted videotapes of interviews in youtube.com. To watch those interviews, please click here.
