Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29, 2025. The JCCCW has partnered with Ikeibi Films to bring the film Kintsukuroi to Seattle! This emotional film shares the injustices and hardships experienced by Japanese American families as their lives were forever changed by the signing of Executive Order 9066 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Join two families from California on their journeys as they are forced to leave their homes and taken to the concentration camps. Some of the families’ members eventually find themselves on the European battlefront to join the war effort as part of the now legendary 442nd Regimental Combat Team, composed almost entirely of Nisei and the most decorated unit in U.S. military history.
The film will be screened twice in the last week of March. Each screening will be followed by a Q & A session with members of the cast and crew, such as producers Kerwin Berk and Samantha Takizawa, along with David Kiyoshi Tom – the actor for Mr. Ibata and a UW alumni!
The first screening will be held at the University of Washington Architecture Hall, Room ARC 147 on Friday, March 28th. Doors open at 6 PM and the film will start at 7 PM. The second will be held at the historic Nippon Kan Theater on Saturday, March 29th. Doors open at 4 PM and a small reception will be held prior to the film’s screening, beginning at 5 PM. Tickets are selling fast and must be purchased in advance, so don’t delay!
Support for the film screenings provided through a George and Sakaye Aratani CARE (Community Advancement Research Endowment) Award.
