CHiLi GiRL (Shinobu Kawashima) is a singer-songwriter and four-time National Champion in classical Tsugaru Shamisen. Her performances are a captivating fusion of powerful shamisen melodies and innovative vocals, showcasing her versatility and creativity, and her shamisen solos are reminiscent of some of the great rock guitar solos of our day. She merges traditional Japanese sounds with contemporary R&B, soul, funk, and jazz and creates a vibrant and eclectic style that resonates with audiences worldwide.
MPC GIRL USAGI is an up-and-comer in the Tokyo music scene. She started her career as a drummer and collaborated with indie and mainstream Funk/R&B/Hiphop artists. Her intense passion for music technology led to the mastery of her MPC (Music Production Controller), where she crafts intricate beats and lush soundscapes that resonate with both classic and contemporary influences. MPC Girl USAGI has emerged as a trailblazer in the modern music scene. This dynamic artist has quickly gained a reputation for her innovative soundscapes and captivating performances, which fuse futuristic production techniques with an emotive, melodic touch.
Guest Artists – Joining CHiLi GiRL and MPC GIRL USAGI as guest performers for this memorable evening at Terry’s Kitchen are Seattle-area saxophonist Jeff Chin and guitarist Leonard Berman. Jeff Chin (The Martini Project) is renowned for his expressive improvisations and innovative jazz performances, while Leonard Berman (DoctorfunK) is celebrated for his captivating guitar work and versatile musical style in R&B, soul and funk. Together, they bring a blend of rich textures and soulful energy that promises to enrich the night’s performance.
